A Modern Farmhouse Interior Paint Color Palette that Coordinates with Sherwin Williams Silvermist

Interior paint color palette for modern farmhouse home that goes with Sherwin Williams Silvermist. Terra cotta red distressed rug, olive branches, light wood flooring, cognac leather. blue-green paint, warm white, robins egg blue, duck egg blue

Y’all, I just found my new favorite blue-green paint color! It’s perfect for those modern farmhouse looks that we all know and love and it looks great with white walls. In fact, I plan on using this color on the interior side of my front door and it’s going to be gorgeous! So, what is this new color I speak of? None other than Sherwin Williams Silvermist.

How this paint color has escaped my attention all these years, I have no idea. But, I’m so glad I found it now. Of course, Silvermist alone isn’t enough to create that perfect farmhouse interior. It takes a paint color palette of coordinating colors to bring the look together. And, the colors and textures you add to the space with your decor and finish selections are what bring the room to life.

These are the items that I included in the interior mood board above…

Olive Branches from Pottery Barn | Parker Wall Mount Pillar Candleholder from Pottery Barn | Mya Oriental Area Rug by World Menagerie from Wayfair | Santa Monica French Oak Flooring by Malibu Wide Plank from Home Depot | Rattan Accent Chair in Gray Finish from Pottery Barn | Level Bench from Article in Bella Caramel | Paint Color Scheme

This mood board is a great starter template to use when putting your interior together. It not only shows the paint color palette, but it also shows some recommended finishes and decor to complete the modern farmhouse look. Of course, you can add in additional materials, textures and patterns for a custom design all your own. But, having the mood board handy when selecting interior items can help you coordinate it all to perfection (chefs kiss!)

Let’s take a closer look at the basic elements needed to translate this look to a gorgeous interior design…

A Paint Palette that includes Sherwin Williams Silvermist

The color palette is the foundation for any interior design. If you get this part right, the rest of the design will fall into place so much easier. So, definitely take the time to get the palette right. I just love how this mix of colors work together. The combination of warm white, bright white, duck egg blue (or is it robins egg blue?), soft gray, khaki tan, light taupe gray and charcoal gray play together so well, don’t you think? The blue-green paint is definitely the star of the show in my book. So pretty!

A Light Wood Flooring as the Main Floor Material Throughout the House

To keep the interior light and bright, I chose a light wood floor finish for this look. The sample on the mood board is a french oak flooring that is just beautiful. Oh, how I love it! My vision is to use this wood floor throughout the entire house, except for the bathrooms, where a tile might be a safer choice. Wood floors do okay in powder rooms, but if there’s a tub or shower in the room, I would go with something more water friendly.

A Terra Cotta Red Distressed Rug for ‘Wow’ Factor

To really ramp up the modern farmhouse look, I chose a vintage style rug with a terra cotta red, distressed pattern. This color contrasts beautifully with the Sherwin Williams Silvermist paint color and adds a bold ‘pop’ of color to the room. This would look gorgeous in an entryway or hallway of the house. Adding this rug somewhere that doesn’t have much else going on can transform a bland space to an photo ready show piece. Give it a try, I think you’ll be pleased with the results.

Olive Branches for a Touch of Nature

This may seem like a trivial detail, but I highly recommend you not skip the plants. Olive branches have a beautiful gray-green coloring that coordinates well with this paint color palette. You could also use live olive trees or bushes if you prefer. Or, faux ones will do in a pinch if you just can’t seem to keep those real ones alive. Believe me, I understand!

Gray Rattan for Natural Texture

You definitely want to add some texture to your interior to keep the rooms from looking too flat and lifeless. The plants and rug help with that but, let’s ramp up the texture even more with some gray rattan. This material could be included with furniture pieces like accent chairs, end tables, etc. Or, you could find some gray rattan baskets, serving trays or wall hangings. There are so many ways to display this natural texture in your home. So, let your creativity fly!

Black Metal Accents for Contrast

I’m a huge fan of black accents. Honestly, I work a little bit of black in just about every interior project I do. It literally goes with everything and adds a bold contrast against the lighter colors in the space. In this design, I picture a ‘sprinkle’ of black metal accents throughout the home with light fixtures, plumbing fixtures, stair railings, cabinet hardware, furniture details and small decor pieces. A little dab’ll do ya’! You really don’t need much black metal to make a statement.

Cognac Leather for a Warm Accent

There’s something so yummy about cognac leather, don’t you think? It’s like snuggling by a warm, cozy fire on a brisk autumn day. This detail adds a touch more of the terra cotta red tones that we already introduced to the home with the distressed rug. You could incorporate this material with upholstered pieces like ottomans, benches or stools. A small, upholstered accent chair perhaps? Just don’t overdo it! This color is pretty bold, so large furniture pieces like sofas, might be too much.

Lets Talk a Bit More About the Paint Color Palette

We already went over the color palette a bit. But, now let’s talk a little bit about where to apply these colors. Of course, there are many different ways you could distribute these throughout your home. Here’s what I have in mind. Start with using the warm white on the walls to brighten up the interior. Then, use the bright white on the trim and interior doors. Next comes Sherwin Williams Silvermist. Use this blue-green paint on accent walls and also on the interior of your front door for a ‘pop’ of color. You can use all the other colors as alternative wall colors if you want something other than white. Or, these colors could be used as accents along with Silvermist. This is where you bring your own creativity into the mix. Have fun with it!
