I had a tough time deciding how to describe this look. It seems fitting to call it a ranch style but there’s so much more to it than that. This is not your grandfather’s ranch interior, oh no. So, I settled on calling it a ‘Modern Ranch’ look.
There are so many things to love about this room, but I think my favorite is that the walls are an enchanting dark teal color. This particular shade of blue-green makes the perfect backdrop for the blonde wood and ochre yellow accents. Then, the designer took it one step further and used a brown and white cowhide upholstery on the log furniture. Be still my heart. All of this sets on an olive green concrete floor that adds to the rustic nature of this room. Of course, not everyone has beautifully stained concrete floors in their home. But, you could easily replicate this look with an olive toned cork flooring.
These are the finishes I used to create the mood board above…
1. Cowhide Rug | 2. Olive Cork Flooring | 3. Benicia Rug | 4. Teal Paint
I think my favorite part of this look is the combination of horse art print and the tribal rug. Both of these pieces are from Pampa along with the woven bag hanging on the wall. What’s your favorite piece in this design?
1. Panama Straw Hat | 2. Litoral Woven Bag | 3. Teal Paint | 4. Olive Cork Flooring | 5. Benicia Rug | 6. Brocade Pillow | 7. Cowhide Rug | 8. Spirit Horse Print | 9. Benicia Rug | 10. Hide Drum Stool
The color scheme for this look is a dark, moody mix starting with the dark teal walls. Then, accents of russet brown, olive green, ochre yellow, blonde wood, black and white are used.

So, how do you feel about rustic cottages like this one? Are you a fan of ranch style decor? Personally, I love it but, I don’t think it would look right with the traditional architecture of my home. Darn it!
