Benjamin Moore has announced their 2017 Color of the Year and it’s a good one! They call it Shadow. It’s a sultry dark neutral in the purple family. I would describe this color as a purple-gray, slate purple, dusty purple or dark plum. It adds an intriguing combination of classy and fun to any design palette. I’ve seen it used as both a primary color and an accent in interior spaces and also translates over to fashion well. Here are some great looks using this color trend…

For a bold look, try ‘Shadow’ as a primary wall color. Add eclectic furnishings with antique gold pieces to finish off the look.

Or, go with a silver gray primary color and add a few dark purple accents for a brighter room.

The classy nature of ‘Shadow’ makes it a great choice for a special occasion dress (and it’s slimming as well!).

The dark plum walls are also a great choice for bedrooms. It creates a restful environment where you can forget the cares of the day.

These smoky purple bottles are just gorgeous! A lovely way to add this color trend to your design.

I love how this living room design has both a traditional and contemporary vibe all at the same time. The purple-gray sofas and throws add a sophisticated touch to the look.

Tufted velvet pieces can effortlessly rock the ‘Shadow’ color trend.

Eclectic interiors with a Bohemian vibe almost have to have a purple accent to be complete. Try a dark plum sofa or settee like in this living room design.

Dark purple bedding in a light, neutral bedroom. Classy yet bright and airy. Love it!

If you’re looking for a retro vibe for your interior, go with a ‘Shadow’ upholstered sofa. It’ll do the trick!

You can use this dark, moody color and still keep the space bright. Look for mostly white pieces with just a touch of ‘Shadow’ accents or prints like in this bedding collection.
